On March 9th, the General Assembly passed a bill allowing cannabidiol, or CBD, to be produced and distributed in Virginia.

This is huge news for adults and children alike in Virginia who have been trying for years to get a hold of medical marijuana to treat severe disorders, such as epilepsy.

A previous state law allowed people in Virginia with epilepsy to have the CBD oil in their possession, however, there were no means for them to retrieve the oil without breaking some federal or state law. Now that the oil can be both produced and distributed, CBD oil has the potential to treat a number of patients that have been seeking a cure for quite some time.

With this bill, of course, comes the requirement for the state Board of Pharmacy to create regulations for safely and securely providing the oil. These regulations will return to the General Assembly next year for the final approval.
