At the Vireo marijuana cultivation center in Johnston, New York, they are spending the last few days of December preparing for their big year ahead. Vireo Health is one of five companies in the state of New York that was awarded a license over the summer to sell medicinal marijuana starting January 5th, 2016.

Vireo is developing a variety of different branded products, focusing primarily on oils and capsules- working around the New York laws prohibiting the drug from being smoked or using edibles. To create the oil and capsules, they have perfected a process of freezing the plants, drying them, and creating them into oils to be vaped or oral capsules.

New York has continued to be one of the strictest states in the country with only ten approved illnesses for patients to get certified to use medicinal marijuana. These illnesses include:

  • Cancer
  • HIV/AIDS
  • ALS
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Spinal cord injury with spasticity
  • IBS
  • Neuropathy
  • Huntington’s Disease
  • Epilepsy

Since insurance does not cover medicinal marijuana, Vireo is committed to expanding patient access and offering some assistance where needed.

Vireo is among the other 5 companies who have invested millions in their facilities in order to prepare for the demand and possibilities to shortly come.

Is Vireo doing everything they can to prepare for the New Year? Watch and see.
